فيروس يسبب نفوق دلافين بسواحل أميركا

An investigation was underway to determine whether a viral infection of the marine morbillivirus was the cause of the mass deaths, the minister was quoted by the local Andina news agency as saying. The dead animals began to wash up over the past weeks on a 220 kilometre stretch of shore from Punta Aguja to Piura, around 700 km north-west of the capital Lima. Around 80 per cent of the dolphins were found in an advanced state of decomposition, which made laboratory analysis more difficult, the minister said. The results for the tests are expected next week. Quijandria Acosta added that massive viral diseases had already been detected in Peru, Mexico and the United States. قالت خبيرة للأحياء المائية إن أكثر من ألف من الدلافين المهاجرة نفقت نتيجة فيروس يشبه فيروس الحصبة على السواحل الشرقية للولايات المتحدة عام 2013، وإنه لم تظهر مؤشرات على انحساره.

وكان 740 دلفينا نفقت أثناء أكبر انتشار للفيروس في 1987/1988 حين لم يكن الفيروس معروفا بعد.

وقالت خبيرة الأحياء المائية في الإدارة الوطنية للمحيطات والغلاف الجوي إيرين فوجيريس إن الفيروس "له تأثير كبير، ونحن نتابع هذا عن كثب".

وأظهرت إحصاءات الإدارة أن 39 ألفا و206 دلافين من النوع الرمادي المدبب الأنف الأكثر شيوعا استوطنت المنطقة الشرقية من نيوجيرسي إلى وسط فلوريدا عام 2010.

ويحاول العلماء معرفة أسباب عودة الفيروس إلى الظهور هذا العام. وقالت فوجيريس إنه عثر على الدلافين التي تهاجر جنوبا في الشتاء نافقة على امتداد الشواطئ من نيويورك إلى فلوريدا منذ يونيو/حزيران الماضي، ورجحت أن يكون عدد غير معلوم من الدلافين المصابة قد نفق أيضا في البحر.
