STORY: Israel is preparing a ground invasion of Gaza, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a televised statement on Wednesday (October 25), but he declined to provide any details on the timing or other information about the operation. He said the decision on when forces would go into the Palestinian enclave, controlled by the Islamist movement Hamas, would be taken by the government's special war cabinet, which includes the leader of one of the centrist opposition parties. Netanyahu, who has so far not taken responsibility for the security failures that led to the Hamas attack, said all involved would be called to account. "The scandal will be fully investigated," he said. "Everyone will have to give answers, me too. But all this will happen only after the war." Earlier, citing U.S. and Israeli officials, the Wall Street Journal reported that Israel had agreed to delay the invasion of Gaza for now, so the United States could rush missile defenses to the region. قال رئيس الوزراء الإسرائيلي بنيامين نتنياهو إن إسرائيل تستعد لشن هجوم بري بهدف تدمير قدرات حركة المقاومة الإسلامية (حماس) في قطاع غزة، لكنه أحجم عن تقديم أي تفاصيل عن توقيت العملية أو أي معلومات أخرى.

وأكد نتنياهو في مؤتمر صحفي اليوم الأربعاء أن المجلس الوزاري المصغر للشؤون الأمنية والسياسية (الكابينت) برئاسته حدد توقيت الدخول البري لقطاع غزة، وأكد "نستعد لعملية برية، لن أحدد متى ستنطلق أو الاعتبارات التي نأخذها في الحسبان، ومعظمها غير معروفة للجمهور".

وأضاف نتنياهو "لقد وضعنا هدفين للحرب، وهما تصفية حماس من خلال تدمير قدراتها العسكرية والسلطوية لها، والقيام بكل ما يمكن لإعادة المختطفين".

وتابع "كل عناصر حماس سيموتون فوق الأرض وتحت الأرض، داخل غزة وخارجها".

وشدد على أنه سيتم التحقيق في الإخفاق في صد هجوم حماس الذي استهدف مستوطنات غلاف غزة بشكل كامل، قائلا "سيكون على الجميع تقديم الإجابات، بمن فيهم أنا، لكن كل هذا سيحدث فقط بعد الحرب".

وكان نتنياهو امتنع سابقا عن تحمل مسؤولية الفشل في توقع وصد هجوم حماس، فيما أعلن مسؤولون إسرائيليون وقادة أجهزة أمنية أنهم يتحملون مسؤولية ما جرى.

وقال نتنياهو "ما وضعناه نصب أعيننا فقط شيء واحد وهو إنقاذ إسرائيل وتحقيق النصر".

واعتبر أن يوم 7 أكتوبر/تشرين الأول الجاري كان يوما أسود في تاريخ إسرائيل، في إشارة إلى عملية طوفان الأقصى التي أطلقتها حماس.

وأول أمس الاثنين، تحدثت صحيفة يديعوت أحرونوت الإسرائيلية عن "أزمة ثقة حقيقية" بين نتنياهو والجيش الإسرائيلي على خلفية مجريات الأحداث في غزة، والمسؤولية عن فشل التنبؤ بهجوم بحماس.

ولليوم الـ19 يواصل الجيش الإسرائيلي استهداف غزة بغارات جوية مكثفة دمرت أحياء بكاملها وتسببت في استشهاد 6546 فلسطينيا، بينهم 2704 أطفال و1584 سيدة و295 مسنا، وأصابت 17 ألفا و439 شخصا، إضافة إلى أكثر من 1600 مفقود تحت الأنقاض.

وخلال الفترة ذاتها قتلت حركة حماس أكثر من 1400 إسرائيلي وأصابت 5132، وفقا لوزارة الصحة الإسرائيلية، كما أسرت ما يزيد على 250 إسرائيليا، بينهم عسكريون برتب عالية ترغب في مبادلتهم بأكثر من 6 آلاف أسير فلسطيني، بينهم أطفال ونساء.
