حاولت وحدات عسكرية تركية متمردة مزودة بدبابات وطائرات تنفيذ انقلاب على الرئيس رجب طيب أردوغان وحكومته، لكنها واجهت مقاومة أمنية وشعبية وسياسية أحبطت مخططها ليُعتقل بعدها مئات الانقلابيين. وأكدت أنقرة السيطرة على الوضع بعد ساعات من المحاولة الانقلابية التي واكبها قصف واشتباكات وخلفت عشرات القتلى ومئات الجرحى بين مدنيين وعسكريين.
