Troops and rescuers were scrambling to reach thousands of people feared trapped under rubble in northern Pakistan Tuesday, an official said, a day after a powerful earthquake hit the region, killing at least 300 people. More than 1,200 injured people were being treated at hospitals in the north-western province of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak said. More than 70 people were killed in eastern Afghanistan in the 7.5-magnitude earthquake that jolted a vast region from Tajikistan to New Delhi in India.

اهتزت أفغانستان وباكستان على وقع زلزال قوي، بلغت شدته 7.5 درجات على مقياس ريختر، وخلف مئات القتلى والجرحى. وذكر مركز المسح الجيولوجي الأميركي أن مركز الزلزال هو جبال هندوكوش أقصى شمال شرق أفغانستان، وعلى عمق 213.5 كيلومترا تحت سطح الأرض.

Indian government employees gather outside Secretariat building after earthquake tremors were felt in Bhopal, India, 26 October 2015. A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 hit northern Afghanistan's Hindu Kush mountain range causing damage in Pakistan and India as well. At least 58 people were killed in Pakistan, 20 in Afghanistan and hundreds wounded.  Tremors were felt in northern India including the capital New Delhi, causing thousands of people to evacuate buildings. Authorities also closed the underground train system.
